Summer Intern Spotlight: Avery Dillard

Our summer intern, Avery Dillard, is a North Carolina native from Eden, North Carolina. He is a senior majoring in Journalism and Mass Communications at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Avery learnedfound out about Bogues Consulting Group through a professor at his university, who recommended that he reach out to the company. When looking for a summer internship, Avery’s goal was to obtain valuable real-world and hands-on experience and narrow down potential career paths.

“I love how diverse the BCG team is. It’s cool to work for a young black CEO like Brittney,” Avery said. “It’s not common for someone her age to already be so successful.”

COVID-19 has caused many businesses to adjust internal communication and interaction. Many interns are used to working in an office rather than remotely from a dining room table or sofa. Avery shares that is has been challenging, given the many distractions. While he has been adjusting to life during a pandemic, BCG created an environment that welcomes interns and makes them feel part of a team, despite the physical distance between them. The BCG team is also proactive in making sure that every intern understands their assignments and works hard to answer questions in a timely fashion.

Avery has made lemonade out of the lemons he was dealt with and spends his time working with the Communications Team to draft social media posts, write clip reports, find images and create website content. With this hands on experience, Avery hopes to gain more knowledge to improve skills that he can utilize in future professional and personal endeavors.

When Avery is not working with BCG, he stays active and focuses on wellness by jogging, walking, playing basketball, playing video games and hanging out with friends and family. Avery has been a great asset to the BCG team and we are so excited to see how he continues to grow during this internship.
