Summer Intern Spotlight: Lauren Edgil

Dedicated, hardworking, passionate, these are just a few words to describe our summer intern, Lauren Edgil, a current fifth-year undergraduate student at Appalachian State studying Communications and Public Relations. Previously a Sports Exercise Science major, Lauren learned that a career in that industry was not the right path for her. She conducted research and after discussing with family, friends, and faculty, decided to stay another year at App State to complete a second degree in Public Relations. A professor in App State’s Communications Department was familiar with BCG and it’s work in the sports industry and suggested Lauren apply for the internship. One of Lauren’s favorite things about working with BCG is having the chance to connect with people of similar interests on a personal level.  She plans to maintain these connections after the internship concludes in hopes of having a successful career in sports public relations.

At BCG, Lauren completes a variety of tasks within the Events and Marketing Departments such as researching venues for events, brainstorming ideas for ongoing campaigns, and identifying sponsors for upcoming events. She has enjoyed working on current projects and hopes to gain experience, build lasting relationships, develop skills in graphic design, and learn social media analytics tools.

Like most interns, Lauren prefer an in-person program but she is making the most of this experience in light of COVID-19. She like every else in the world are learning how to adapt to a new world and a new way we work. We asked her what she thinks the future of the event planning and marketing industry will look like post-COVID and she shares that the future will have a virtual social distance response. In the second half of her internship, Lauren will transition to the Communications Team and hopes to learn more about social media management and the analytics tools that accompany it.

After the internship with BCG, Lauren will continue to pursue a degree in Public Relations and gain more experience within the sports public relations industry. The internship has already allowed her to improve on various skills such as professionalism, leadership, organization, and time management. “These are the most important tools you can utilize outside of the actual job and improving these skills will allow me to excel in any future employment opportunities,” Lauren said.

When she’s not working, Lauren enjoys staying active and taking drives along the parkway to playing with her one-year-old Labrador Retriever, she spends many of her days outside. She loves attending sporting events and is involved with App State athletics. We are excited to have Lauren with us this summer and believe that she is a great addition to the BCG team!
